Happy Friday fangirls & fanboys! To celebrate this fabulous day, the start of the glorious weekend, I am going to participate in a Five Fandom Friday Challenge! What is FFF you ask? It’s a weekly challenge created by bloggers The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick to come up with a top 5 list to fit a geeky theme. My Fangirl Life doesn’t necessarily do it every week, but sometimes we want to hang out with the cool kids & join in the fun You can click HERE to see what other FFFs we’ve taken part in.
This Friday: Favorite Fictional Foods
Today’s Five Fandom Friday was to name my favourite fictional foods. I sat and I pondered. I perused my book shelf for ideas. I picked KG’s brain as to her top choices. And one unified thought just kept coming up: Harry Potter’s fictional food is the best fictional food. Nothing else compares. Am I going to pick the random breads born out of each district of Panem over Chocolate Frogs? Or Game of Thrones-style mutton (which technically isn’t even fictional) over Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans? Or literally anything, real or fictional, over Butterbeer? I don’t think so. So rather than name five different fictional foods, I am going to explain with 5 simple arguments: Why Harry Potter’s Fictional Food is Best.
1. The Vast Array of (Fictional) Options
And I’m not just meaning with Bertie Bott’s Every Flavored Beans…although there’s endless variety in every box of those! When considering other fandoms I was struck by how much of their food was things I eat every day. I love Supernatural and it is packed with crazy, unreal things…but Justine loves pie almost as much as Dean Winchester. Boring. Harry Potter mixes food we are all used to with food that only British people are used to with a whole slew of made up things. There are meals and sweets and beverages, all imagined. It really rounds out the fictional universe.
2. Magical Properties
Is there anything more wonderful than opening up a Chocolate Frog and having it leap into the air? No more lectures from your mother about not playing with your food because some of the food in the Harry Potter universe actually plays with you! And then there are the magical effects Harry Potter’s fictional food has on YOU! Jawbreakers that make you float.
3. It’s Oh-So Clever
I’d be stocked up on Sugar Quills if I was attending Hogwarts. I’d have no notes from any of my classes and 8 million cavities, but I’d be happy. I could combat my inevitable tooth decay by using the Toothflossing Stringmints! And what about Skiving Snackboxes? No one would ever have to fake being sick again…these would do that for you. Granted, you need to be very committed to your cause…but I believe in always giving 110%. And then there are the names. Sometimes Muggle candy has cute-gimmicky names, but Runts & Gobstoppers ain’t got nothing on Fizzing Whizzbees.
4. Inclusivity
No one is left out when it comes to Harry Potter food…especially the sweets we find in the famous Honeydukes. Acid Pops. Cockroach Clusters. Blood-Flavored Lollipops. It doesn’t matter what your tastes are, you will find the treat that’s right for you!
5. Butterbeer
If nothing else has convinced you, I am certain that one sip of Butterbeer would. Just the descriptions of this frothy beverage made my mouth water. And then I had the privilege of drinking it (every chance I got) while at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter last year. The real world version of this fictional drink is sooooooooooooo delicious (although sadly not alcoholic). One sip will be all you need to be “Team Harry Potter’s Fictional Food is Best”…although maybe not one sip of our attempt to recreate Butterbeer (that was a resounding failure).

Butterbeer for All!!!
Love & Luck,
Kris
