Welcome to my weekly blog series: Tuesday Walk of Shame. Here I hang my head low as I admit to having watched the previous night’s episode of The Bachelor / Bachelorette / Bachelor In Paradise (or whatever the newest spin-off happens to be) and provide my own personal commentary. I’ll tell you what I loved. I’ll tell you what I hated. And most importantly, I’ll tell you what I would have done differently.
Vote Kris for The Bachelorette… because socially anxious, kinda bitchy, hopelessly unromantic nerds deserve love too.
The pressure is on: 17 days until Christmas. We are hitting the prime gift-buying period and I am here to help! Do you have a big Bachelor fan on your list? My Fangirl Life has compiled a list of potential presents for your favourite member of Bachelor Nation. Now on to the gift guide:
Happy Shopping!
Love & Luck,
Kris
It is coming. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. I can hardly believe how close opening day is; I literally get goosebumps every time I think about it. 14 DAYS AND COUNTING! But how do we pass the time until the coveted premiere? A Star Wars Marathon, obviously!
I know you’re all thinking it: “I really should rewatch the other ones first” (along with a pinch of “But do I have to watch Episode I?”). I say this before any new instalment of a series comes out. I must rewatch the movies before a new film hits theatres. I must reread the books when a new novel hits shelves. And I have the overwhelming urge to binge-watch every season of a TV show that previously aired before it makes its way back onto my television screen each week. The amazing thing about Star Wars is that there are 6 previous films (yes, I am assuming you will watch Episode I). This makes for over 13 hours of air time! Hurrah! So many adventures in a galaxy far far away! But I do recognize that the logistics of 13 hours and 11 minutes of viewing is a bit difficult, so I’m here to talk you through your 3 best viewing options!
Even the Enterprise crew is having a Star Wars Marathon
What: With Option 1 you will do less of a “Star Wars Marathon” and more of a “I have time tonight so let’s pump out one or two movies, depending on how tired we are.”
When: Literally whenever you have time.
Who: This option is best suited to watching alone or with your spouse/roommate/significant-other/best friend… or, you know, just one other person.
Why: This is the choice for you if you (a) don’t have 13 hours straight to put aside, (b) can’t manage to stay awake through one movie (let alone 6), and/or (c) want the fun to last over the whole 2 weeks.
Marathon Tips: Make sure you ensure there is time to view all 6 movies! And if you are in doubt start with the originals (Episodes IV through VI). There will be nothing worse than running out of time and finding you only got to see the prequels.
What: It’s party time! This is a time to celebrate Star Wars. You will choose a two day period and spread the films out while hanging out with people whose company you enjoy (even if you hate everyone and that just means you hang out by yourself).
When: The weekend would work best. December 5-6th might be a bit last minute to invite people, and too far out from the new release too. Ideally you and your guests would set aside a 48 to 56 hour time period… December 11-13th would be perfect!
Who: Whether it’s a party for one, two, or 30, make it a party!
Why: This choice is for you if you (a) like to view with others, (b) want to expose someone to the Star Wars franchise for the first time, (c) need frequent breaks during movie marathons, and/or (d) want to really absorb everything that is happening in the one epic story-arc of the Skywalker family!
Marathon Tips: Seriously, turn this into a party. If you head over to our Pinterest account you will find a whole board dedicated to planning your Star Wars Marathon party, including food, decor, games, etc! Click the banner below to get there!
What: A 17-hour straight binge-watching session. This can be done alone or IN THE THEATRES!!!
When: When do you have 13 hours to spare? Preferably this would be the 13 hours before you first see The Force Awakens. If you are awesome like me you have tickets to a 17 hour marathon in a local theatre including The Force Awakens at the end!
Who: If done at home, then with whoever wishes to join. If being done in the theatre it is with whoever already has tickets with you, because these things are long sold out! Or, I guess, with whoever you can now scam a ticket off of.
Why: Nothing hammers the point home like binge-watching. You will be eating-sleeping-and-breathing this Star Wars marathon. Plus how epic is it to say you did it?
Marathon Tips: Comfort is key! If you’re at home, don’t be afraid to make a blanket fort or a nest of pillow in front of your television! If you’re in the theatre bring a pillow & blanket! Do it. Don’t worry that people will laugh at you. When I went to The Hobbit marathon (all of the films leading into the premiere of the final instalment) the guy next to me made fun of my blanket & pillow at the start, but admitted halfway through that he was insanely jealous of them. And no matter where you are: Dress appropriately!!! Want a pro-tip? Get some Hot Dame leggings. They are insanely comfortable & Star Wars themed!!! Check out more of their products in our post we did featuring them – Geek Shopping: Hot Dame. And if you order before December 18th (aka Star Wars Day!!!) you can use our discount code “FANGIRL” for 15% off! This is what I will be wearing for my Star Wars marathon:
Let the countdown continue….Happy Viewing!
Love & Luck,
Kris

Black Friday is over which means that the holiday season is here, in my books at least! This also means that gifts and Christmas shopping are probably front of mind for most of you. I personally love this time of year and the process of finding the perfect gifts for the important people in my life. Today I’m here to help you get through that process… if you have any fans of My Little Pony to shop for.
It’s been awhile since I last wrote about MLP, so I had so much fun browsing Etsy for these geek gift ideas. Everything was just SO ADORABLE! But since this gift guide is for adult fans of the show, I tried to keep the items included to things that were useful, consumable, or really nondescript. There is no need to have a bunch of useless stuff with pony faces all over it lying around your house – it may as well be useful stuff.
I found all of the below items on Etsy, and most of the pony-specific ones are offered for all of the “mane six” at least. You’ll notice that my examples favour Pinkie Pie heavily… that’s because she’s my favourite ? (and totally my spirit animal).
So read on for my comments on the below items, or click the photo to be directed to my treasury, where you can check out links to all of these awesome items!
As a bonus item, I also have a bunch of these Pinkie Pie Cutie Mark Pins that I sell on Fiverr! For $5 USD plus shipping you too can rep Pinkie Pie whenever you want. Click the image below to head over to my Fiverr ad, or feel free to send an email to myfangirllifeblog@gmail.com if you’d like to purchase in another way.
Hope this guide was helpful – don’t forget that you can check out my Treasury on Etsy for links to all of the awesome shops featured here.
What are you buying for the My Little Pony fan in your life? Let me know what types of cool things you’ve found in the comments!
Happy Shopping!
Cheers,
KG
Happy Friday fangirls & fanboys! To celebrate this fabulous day, the start of the glorious weekend, I am going to participate in a Five Fandom Friday Challenge! What is FFF you ask? It’s a weekly challenge created by bloggers The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick to come up with a top 5 list to fit a geeky theme. My Fangirl Life doesn’t necessarily do it every week, but sometimes we want to hang out with the cool kids & join in the fun You can click HERE to see what other FFFs we’ve taken part in.
This Friday: Black Friday NEEDS
Christmas is a difficult time for our bank accounts, and that’s without buying presents for ourselves in every store. That’s why I try to limit my Black Friday shopping to Christmas presents (and the odd thing I’ve been holding off buying until this particular “holiday”). Hence my spin on this week’s Five Fandom Friday; rather than turn this into my wish list, I am here to suggest some awesome geek gift ideas. Some of them are unique… you know you’ll find geeky stuff on Think Geek or Her Universe or Hot Topic (& they all have Black Friday deals) but I want to give you new ideas! Since I am Canadian and celebrated Thanksgiving over a month ago, it is lucky for me (and the rest of the world) that Black Friday has spilled out of American stores & seeped into the internet. Between weekend sales & Cyber Monday I am sure we can all save a few dollars (or Pounds or Euros or whatever) and get the gifts we need… for others or ourselves…
1. Prep for the New Star Wars Film @ Junk Food Clothing
Have a Star Wars fan to buy for this year? Be honest, you do. Everyone does because everyone loves Star Wars… or at least they should! Anyways, Junk Food Clothing offers really amazing vintage-style Star Wars tees for both men & women. I’d be ordering a bunch but they don’t ship to Canada. Boo. But American Star Wars fans can order for great gifts or as something to wear to the upcoming The Force Awakens film! And for Black Friday they’re offering 40% off storewide!
2. Jawbreaking T-Shirts as seen on One Direction
Do you have a hardcore Directioner on your gift list? How about getting them a shirt that has graced the body of one of the dreamy members? Not the actual shirt, just, like, one they have been photographed in (I know, too bad!). Jawbreaking is a fun brand that the hottest boy band on the planet has loved in the past… and they happen to be offering up to 70% off today! Remember Harry’s “Hipsta Please” shirt? That was made by Jawbreaking! Unfortunately they don’t still offer that design, but these are a few others that 1D has sported: “Weekend Warrior” Tee – Wanderer Tank
3. Lyric Photos with My Fangirl Life & Social Print Studio
If you feel like “shopping in the dark”, then check these guys out today. When I discovered Social Print Studio last November I was blown away by the brilliance of their simple business: they print square photos! This brought about two of my best stocking sufferers of Christmas 2104:
(a) Instagram Prints – I used Iconosquare to save a few of my cousin’s Instagram pics & then got them printed for her. Now she can decorate using some of her more artistic shots.
(b) Lyric Photos – Our lyric photos just so happen to be square! Last year I picked some of my favs, got them printed, then stuffed them into the stockings of my favorite Directioners, Swifties, and Sheerios. Allow me to present links to each of our lyric-photo-filled posts (or you can find them on our Tumblr or Pinterest):
One Direction: Made in the A.M. / Four Pt. 1 / Four Pt. 2 / Four Pt. 3 / Four Pt. 4
Taylor Swift: 1989 Pt. 1 / 1989 Pt. 2 / 1989 Pt. 3 / 1989 Pt. 4
5 Seconds of Summer: Sounds Good Feels Good / 5 Seconds of Summer
Other: Meghan Trainor / Charlie Puth / Fifth Harmony / Charli XCX / The Vamps / RaeLynn / Hanson “MmmBop”
4. Hot Dame Leggings
Hot Dame‘s leggings are to die for! Today you can get 15% off with their Black Friday sale… but that’s not the end! Luckily for you, My Fangirl Life recently teamed up with Hot Dame and got a discount code for all of you! Find out about the shop in our interview, browse their products in our gallery, and read out product reviews to figure out what the perfect piece is for you (or your giftee). Then pop over to the shop & use the coupon code “FANGIRL” to get 15% off! And this coupon code is valid beyond only Black Friday – you can use it up until December 18.
5. Fangirl Dresses from Gold Bubble
Another option for cute fandom dresses is Gold Bubble. Get up to 40% off on super cute Frozen, Star Wars, Sherlock, or themed dresses. I’m in love with the SpiderGwen one… although they are not officially licensed (I assume, based on how the names are “Snow Queen,” “The Mechanic,” or “Bored”) the designs are totally on point!
What awesome deals will you be taking advantage of this weekend? And what cool gifts will be waiting under your tree? Be sure to let us know in the comments! Happy Shopping!
Love & Luck,
Kris
Jurassic World comes out today. RAWRRRRRRR! In case you don’t know how to speak like the dinosaurs, that means “Huzzah!”. I have been waiting for this movie for years. It was much anticipated long before it was announced that it was being made. I have lived my life in hopes that one day there would be a new movie where a badass, hot guy fights against (and with dinosaurs). It was merely a dream… until Chris Pratt, flanked by raptors, rode his motorcycle onto my computer screen.
I haven’t seen the film yet, at the time of writing this. However by the time you are reading it I may have… and a review is in our future. But for now I want to discuss a realization I have had:
We could all use a few more dinosaurs in our lives!
In an attempt to remedy this I have compiled an array of the best Etsy has to offer in the realm of dinosaurs. Go forth & shop, my prehistoric friends!
1. Plantasaurus – Because who doesn’t need a violet stegosaurus planter? mytinytrinkets has a variety of other dinos & colors if you they’re more your speed.
2. Dinosaur Era Washi Tape – How do you use Washi tape? you ask. Well reader I like to use it on everything! My favorite use is decorating cards, letters and envelopes, because mail is the best surprise for those you love.
3. Blue Felt Plesiosaur Toy – I had a blue Plesio as a child. It was one of my favourite toys. I promise it would make your child’s life better too… or yours… I don’t judge.
4. “I Give Hugs” Raptor Tee – I purchased this t-shirt about a year ago and absolutely love it! Great quality, excellent fit and adorably funny.
5. Dinosaur Map of the World – Not quite sure why this is a thing but it combines two of my greatest loves: Dinosaurs & Maps, so it’s a great idea in my books.
6. Dino On A Rocket Phone Case – Dinosaurs in Space? Yes Please!
7. Dinosaur Skeleton Necklace – This is possibly the coolest necklace I’ve ever seen! Now you can wear dead things around your neck too ?
8. Vinyl Dinosaur Stickers – These little babies will allow you to spread the dino-love everywhere! Stick them on your books… your phone case… your mirror… your forehead. Wherever is likely to give you the most dino-joy!
9. Watercolor T-Rex 2-Piece Print – It’s badass, yet pretty. It’s artsy, yet something a super nerd would own. It’s like Jurassic World is bound to be: amazing art centered around scary dinosaurs!
10. Amigurumi Pattern Crochet T-Rex – In case you’re feeling crafty you can download a pattern to crochet your very own dino-friend. Then you can carry your pet dinosaur everywhere and show him off!
11. T-Rex Shower Curtain – Because who doesn’t want to feel like they’re about to be eaten by a terrifying dinosaur while showering?!?
12. Dinosaur Card – “You Make My Heart Saur” So cute.
13. All-Natural Dinosaur Soy Crayons – You can get crayons in basically any shape these days! I chose dinosaurs for this post… for obvious reasons. These have the added bonus of being eco-friendly & non-toxic.
14. Dinosaur Rawr Phone Case – A little less ridiculous than the first case on the list. It’s a great balance of adorable yet cool.
15. 3D Dinosaur Cookie Cutters – It’s like being an archaeologist piecing together bones…but more delicious!
16. The Saurus Funny Dinosaur T-Shirt – Perfect for the literary nerd in your life! You know, as long as they love dinosaurs as much as you!
Or see it all together in my Etsy Treasury “A Little More Dinosaur in Your Life“.
Rawrrrrrrrrr!
Love & Luck,
Kris
Disclaimer: I cannot vouch for the quality of any of these items. I do not own them; I have not tried them out. I just think they look way cool. I will always explicitly state if a product is one I have bought, tried or been asked to feature.
You heard it here first, friends!
This is our official announcement about the impending launch of our My Fangirl Life Etsy shop. We are all pretty big into crafting, and I think cosplay has brought out a whole new creative-DIY side in me at least. So lucky you – you’ll have the opportunity to purchase all sorts of fun and creative crafts made by the My Fangirl Life team.
I’ve been helping my mom run an Etsy shop over at Fireweed Impressions for several years, so I’ll be bringing some new and fun geeky jewelry to the My Fangirl Life store. Also keep watch for exciting items from other members of the team, ranging from sewing projects to fun accessories and who knows what else!
We’ve already got the shop up and running here, but we’ll be launching whole new lines of products starting on June 1 – so keep your eyes peeled for that excitement!
Cheers,
KG
The holiday season is wrapping up and I am currently undertaking the task of finding somewhere to put all of my excellent gifts. I have to admit I was a bit spoiled this year (and every other year). It seems my family and friends have noticed that I’m a crazy fangirl because they specifically spoiled me with lots of fandom-related presents. It occurred to me that it would be fun if I, along with the other fangirls & boys of this blog, did a Fangirl Christmas Haul. Hopefully you’ll find it useful for future gift ideas for both yourself & others
As a quick disclaimer, I’m not trying to brag or anything with this. I realize my friends and I are very lucky to have received all of this wonderful stuff. We just thought it might be helpful & enjoyable to share.
I am happy to link to the items when I can. Of course they are all gifts so I’m not sure where some are from. And on some occasions we bought up the only one available on Etsy. I will do my best to link a close match, the Etsy shop it was from or somewhere you might be able to find a similar item. Happy Browsing!
(1.) A “Talk Nerdy to Me” Shirt, perfect for a nerdy Engineer. My mom picked mine up in Houston but you can get other fun NASA merchandise online. (2.) A Comic Book Print Skater Skirt. (3.) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles merch including a V-Neck T-Shirt, Knee-High Michelangelo Socks (I can’t find my exact ones but here are some other fun ones) + Vanilla Milk Straws (because those should obviously be TMNT themed…?). (4.) Speaking of socks I received pairs that make me think of Godzilla (by ‘Sock It To Me’) (Rawr!) & Frozen (by Xhilaration). (5.) I received a hilarious One Direction Hair Bow from KG, while she got a Necklace inspired by Liam’s tattoo from me. (6.) Justine got a Map Scarf. (7.) While I got a Math Equation Scarf. (8.) And a Doctor Who Fourth Doctor Scarf!!! My awesome mom spent hours knitting me one. You can find a pattern here, but you can also buy them on Etsy (although they aren’t cheap).

(4.) KG & Justine both received From the Page Book-themed Scented Candles in such fun scents as 221B Baker Street, Peeta’s Cakes, & Winterfell. (5.) KG also received Lyric Pictures made by yours truly for past posts about Taylor Swift & One Direction.
(1.) Two Board Games: Dominion + Pandemic. (2.) KG got a Hufflepuff Bookmark because she’s a Hufflepuff…no matter what she says. (3.) Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips…sound like it might momentarily fill the void Percy Jackson has left. (4.) The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su + Kate Rorick because I am obsessed with The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. (5.) Johnny Rico (of Mangirling) got his very own Apple Jack…what a Bronie. (6.) Stickers of Superheroes Riding My Little Ponies…which is a thing apparently. (7.) Star Wars Lego (SQUEEEEEL): a small X-Wing Fighter and a big AT AT.
What awesome things did you get this year? Let us know in the comments below!
Love & Luck,
Kris
