Welcome back to another edition of Fangirl Recaps: 5 Favourites of Agent Carter! Today I’ll be recapping Episode 2×05. As usual, MAJOR, MAJOR Spoilers below. You have been warned!
I particularly enjoyed this past week’s episode; I found it to be hilarious! I honestly had way more than 5 favourites, so it was a challenge narrowing them down… but a fun challenge. Here are just a few of my favourite parts of the episode:
1) Sousa’s Proposal
Even though I’m like 90% sure that Sousa and Peggy will end up together, I really like Sousa’s current girlfriend, Violet. She’s an adorable female character that is so much more than just competition for Peggy. As I’ve mentioned before, Agent Carter creates great complex female characters and writes them well. Violet is no exception. Sousa’s proposal to Violet was such a sweet depiction of his love for her. And even though it didn’t quite go according to plan, it was adorable and swoon worthy.
2) New Team
I thoroughly enjoyed the new team dynamic this episode. Because of Rose and Dr. Samberly there was great energy during their scenes. They also added a new element that we hadn’t had in Carter thus far. Each character played a part in the dismantling of the Atomic bomb and I was extremely glad to see that their characters had been developed in such a short amount of time.
Also, the slow motion walk before the mission was that extra element that I live for in Agent Carter. Dr. Samberly tripping over his own feet was the perfect touch.
3) Rose. ‘Nuff said.
ROSE IS MY NEW FAVOURITE CARTER CHARACTER. I’m SO glad that the writers took the opportunity to develop her character this episode. Rose is EVERYTHING I didn’t know I wanted added to this show. Her character is essentially a badass masquerading as a quiet, meek secretary. All the men already know that Peggy is a badass, capable of standing next to them in terms of physicality, but I was extremely pleased to see another female character in the same position. I was also overjoyed to see Rose shatter the disbelief that Sousa had, with Peggs standing up for her saying, “I’m seeing Sousa but I’m hearing Jack Thompson.” Thunderous applause Carter writers, thunderous applause. ?ﾟﾏﾻ?ﾟﾏﾻ?ﾟﾏﾻ
Also that whole “I’ve seen bigger” right before beating up the man twice her size was PERFECT.
4) Jarvis Dismantling the Bomb
This scene was wonderful in so many ways, but mainly because Jarvis was put in a position where he had to save the day. Everyone’s fate rested solely on his shoulders for one of the first times. And of course his wit and terror was perfect through the entire endeavour. I half expected him to faint after removing the Uranium. Jarvis, once again, proves that he is a strong, capable character, and more than just being the hilarious, whining butler.
5) Peggs Getting Majorly Injured
Ok, so it wasn’t actually something I enjoyed. I mean, seeing poor Peggy get impaled is definitely NOT a favourite part, but it was an important one. Peggy is an awesome character and a damn good fighter. BUT there have been maybe too many instances where she’s gotten away from the baddie, only slightly injured and back on her feet the next day. Personally I feel that Peggy getting injured in a MAJOR way was extremely important for her character development. It shows the audience that she isn’t invincible and, even more, it shows the other characters that she’s human too. As the audience we know that she lives well into her 90’s (in The Winter Soldier, Cap sees her as a veeeery old woman), so we know she’s not in danger of dying, but it’s important to remind the audience every once in a while that she is in fact flesh and bone. It was refreshing to see other characters save HER this time around. Sousa’s concern for her was apparent and extremely sweet (even though he was technically engaged to another woman). This point brings me once again to my love for Violet. When she saw Sousa’s clear feelings for Peggy, she didn’t hate Peggy and become aggressive towards her; instead she placed the blame where it was deserved. On Sousa. Thanks Carter writers for not making the women of Carter crazy!!!
I absolutely LOVED this episode of Agent Carter and as always, am looking forward to the next one. What did you think of this episode? Did Rose make you laugh? Did Jarvis’ heroics make you fear for his safety? Did “heart eyes” Daniel Sousa make you sigh? Please sound off in the comments below!
That’s all for now! Please check back next week for another Recap!
Ciao for now,
