Last night the people of the internet had a bit of a freak-out watching the midseason finale of Pretty Little Liars. I admit I was one of them. I just wasn’t satisfied; I wanted to be shocked. I wanted more.
But I’ve been thinking about it and guys, there’s no need to get so upset. This was simply a midseason finale, not the series finale… not even the season finale! There’s still more to come. If this was the actual conclusion of the show I would be a little disappointed, but I’m choosing to reserve judgement until the end of ends. I have hope that we’re still going to get all the answers we want.
Obviously there are spoilers for Pretty Little Liars Season 6A in this post… just thought I’d explicitly state it so I don’t break any of our own Spoiler Rules.
Kris and I spent hours on Twitter and Tumblr last night, reading all of the theories and fan reactions you fangirls & fanboys could throw at us. We also, of course, watched the promo for 6B, multiple times. Once in 0.25x speed (aka super slow motion) so we could dissect every detail with frame-by-frame precision:
– Like how Radley is now a hotel? Talk about creepy, I do not want to be staying there. (Note: Tumblr tells me Radley becomes a hotel in the books? Still creepy.)
Online you can read post after post of the questions viewers still don’t know the answers to. I was hoping for finality last night, but I think I’m more confused now than I was when the episode started. #SummerofAnswers my ass!
What it all comes down to, I think, is that there is still an Uber A out there. There had to have been someone making CeCe confess. She gave in way too easily. Someone does not torment people in secret for years only to take a full 180 & give themselves up to the cops with one little “We understand your reasons. Please don’t jump.” plea. Plus CeCe has a self-confessed addiction to the game… she said herself that she couldn’t just leave it after Ali came back. But we’re supposed to believe that she just decided to come out as Charles on her own accord? Ending the game with complete finality? No way. I read one theory where CeCe is actually Bethany and Charles is still out there. I like this idea though doubt it’s true. But then Jessica is the only one who could confirm or deny her story and she’s not exactly in a state to do so.
The internet is obsessed with the Wren is Charles theory and I’m still almost certain he’s involved. There are a number of clues pointing to him. Most recently, CeCe would have needed a doctor to help her transition, and perhaps he helped it happen as quickly as it did, all while still in Radley. There has to be an explanation for her quick transition. I’m choosing to believe this is it because the actual episode kind of just glossed over the whole physically-becoming-a-woman thing. Conversely, Kris doesn’t believe Wren is a doctor at all. She thinks he has his hands in far too many things & is practicing way too many kinds of medicine to actually be legit.
Also, what’s Mona’s involvement in all this? Perhaps Uber A put the A game in her head way back in Season 1 and she never fully stopped playing? She’s too smart not to have known CeCe stole the game from her.
There are so many excellent theories on the internet already concerning 6B, check them out! I’ll likely pull out my favorites before the show premieres again.
But the main thing Kris and I dissected last night was how the girls looked 5 years later. At most the girls are now 23, so why did the show runners make some of them look 30?
The girls are all stunning in the future. I think I like Spencer’s bangs and I forgot Hanna once had long hair. They probably made Alison look the oldest though. – so much makeup on Rosewood’s newest teacher! But it’s what they were wearing that left us scratching our heads. Emily in something other than jeans and a t-shirt? So weird. And Spencer and Hanna in weird baggy pantsuit like things. I don’t think I’m a fan. Perhaps this is now stylish, I don’t know. Perhaps instead I’m the one who’s out of touch. They were style-concious teenagers and yet I still shook my head at some of their outfits, perhaps this is now just the grown up version of that.
As someone who is now in her mid twenties I’d like to ask the internet if at 23 you actually go for classy day drinks with your friends? I somehow don’t think those 23 year olds actually exists in real life. Though maybe the girls are now high class members of society and this is what their life is like. Perhaps my friends and I are just hobos in comparison. I guess I’ll have to wait a few months to find out.
I guess what I’m trying to say with all of this is calm yourselves. We got a lot of answers last night & we should be thankful for that… even if we don’t love what some of those answers are. Maybe everything CeCe said was actually an elaborate lie? A girl can hope. Or maybe it’s all true. Either way there is definitely more to come… the show still has at least a season & a half to go (if not another season & a movie?). In the end the only things we can legitimately complain about are (1) Why would they make us care for the badass, wine-drinking mothers so much, put them in danger and then not fill us in on their fates? It’s just rude. And (2) When did PLL become Tron? 6A is taking place in like 2011, isn’t it? So what’s with the futuristic holographic screen? That was so lame. What’s wrong with using an actual computer?
I’m now off to find ways to get my PLL fix until January. Should I read the books? Dissect fan theories? Find some good fan fiction? Re-watch the series? So many possibilities! Let me know how you’ll be spending the break in the comments.
Thanks for reading!
