Happy Birthday Kate Middleton!
Today’s post is dedicated to one of my favourite people: Duchess of Cambridge and wife & mother of two different future Kings of England, Kate Middleton. Last year I wrote about how Kate is pretty much the epitome of a Disney princess. This year (because I am obviously going to honour her every year), my focus is a bit more historical.
I’ve recently caught up on Reign (and based on the My Fangirl Life Spoiler Guide I’m 100% free to discuss historical spoilers here!). Ugghh, could those episodes have been more heartbreaking?!? This show gives me so many feels. I was sobbing as I watched. I love Mary. I love Francis. I love the doomed romance it was. I just wanted a happy ending but of course that was never going to happen. Because what I love more than their relationship is historical accuracy. I wrote about this at the end of the previous season. I am a little surprised Francis met his unfortunate demise as quickly as he did, being the romantic hero of the show and all, but then, if we’re going for historical accuracy, it should have happened already. King Francis II was only on the French throne for 17 months and died when he was only 16.
But, now that Francis is gone and Mary is cutting her ties with France, we can get to more important things. Like how in actuality Mary, Queen of Scots is more important to the current royal family than her cousin Queen Elizabeth. Elizabeth is remembered for her greatness, but Mary’s tragic end in their dispute cannot be ignored. It is directly from her that we get the current British royal family.
Mary, Queen of Scots is the current Queen Elizabeth II’s 10th great grandmother. Young Prince George is more closely related to Mary than her cousin Elizabeth. And after watching the first few episodes of Reign‘s 3rd season at once this makes me really happy.
Happy Birthday Kate! Thank you for continuing the direct line of Mary, Queen of Scots. ?ﾟﾑﾑ?
Thanks for reading!
