Happy Friday fangirls & fanboys! To celebrate this fabulous day, the start of the glorious weekend, I am going to participate in a Five Fandom Friday Challenge! What is FFF you ask? It’s a weekly challenge created by bloggers The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick to come up with a top 5 list to fit a geeky theme. My Fangirl Life doesn’t necessarily do it every week, but sometimes we want to hang out with the cool kids & join in the fun You can click HERE to see what other FFFs we’ve taken part in.
This Friday: Favorite Late To The Game TV Discoveries
You hear people say that “Netflix is my Boyfriend”, well not only is that that case with me but Television is my Soulmate. And it’s not just me; Justine & KG both love tv as well. It meant choosing this as our January Five Fandom Friday selection was a no-brainer. But it also presented us with a horrible dilemma: How could we ever pick only 5 shows that we’ve loved binge-watching? I’m not sure I could do that all on my own, let alone collectively between the three of us! So instead of picking just 5 shows I have created 5 Binge-Watching Categories. This way we get to talk about more television! (we will always be up for talking about television… along with what it would be like to hypothetically fall in love with a Harry Styles cardboard cutout, how to become a roadie-then-life-coach for 5SoS, and what character from any fandom we/you should cosplay).
1. Currently Binge Watching
We are all always binge watching something… if not two or three somethings at a time. What are we currently dedicating our time to?
Justine: I’m still trying to get through Supernatural. It’s taking me awhile – there are so many episodes! -but I have to finish it this year; it’s one of my 2016 Fangirl Resolutions.
KG: I’m also slowly working my way through a show: The Walking Dead. I want to power through it but I started watching it with my boyfriend and he is not a binge watching pro. I’ve also finally been convinced to watch Doctor Who… it’s actually one of my Resolutions too.
Kris: I’m in the middle of Reign. I’m also having to take it a bit slower than normal, but for me it’s because I’m finding this show all-consuming. When I’m in the midst of powering through multiple episodes it’s all I can think about.
2. Just Finished Binge Watching
Being addicted to tv means that you can fly through shows like no one’s business. Sure, sometimes you get busy and can barely keep up with what is actually airing week-to-week… but other times you finish an entire series in a weekend, or multiple shows in a week. What have we just finished?
Justine: I’ve just finished two shows: The Royals & Jessica Jones. Both were awesome, though very different.
KG: I just finished Arrow. Kris & Justine raved about it so when I saw it on Netflix I thought “Why Not?”. I was pretty darn all-consumed with Arrow during the time I was powering through it.
Kris: I also just finished binge watching The Royals. It was perfect trashy tv. On a more critically acclaimed front, I also just finished Master of None. It was amazing! Really funny, but also very real… I felt like it could be the life of one of my friends.
3. Binge Watching Together
Have we ever told you about how we are the best best friends who have ever best friended? Well we are. And that means that we don’t just binge watch alone; we also binge watch together!
Justine: KG and I are slowly making our way through Nashville. It’s taking us awhile because we only watch whenever Kris is out of town.
KG: There’s Nashville with Justine and Kris & I just started One Tree Hill. I never got into it when it was actually airing, so now I’m enjoying the teen drama years later… except I’m spending a little too much time sympathizing with the adult characters instead of the teens I’m supposed to identify with.
Kris: KG & I live together so we like to always have a show on the go, for lazy Sundays & such. We just finished Jane the Virgin recently… goodness it was funny! Rogelio is the greatest character ever. I’m also watching Z Nation with KG & Johnny Rico, because you obviously need to have a show to watch with every possible friend-group combination.
4. Longest Binge Watching Commitment
Have you ever thought about how much time you spend watching tv? For me it can be disgusting. I can get so addicted that I will blow off plans to sit in the dark in my room, huddled around my computer screen. I get that it’s not healthy, but I made a commitment to the show and to myself that I will soon understand the Tumblr references. Let’s take a look at how much time we’ve dedicated to just one show.
Justine: Oh goodness. Last summer I was the Binge Watching Queen! I watched all of Pretty Little Liars in less than a month… a month that included a road trip to the Yukon. I became obsessed!
KG: Last year I watched Bones in about 3 months. I was pretty proud of myself ?
Kris: My biggest commitment would have to be Supernatural. Watching everything is about a week’s worth of tv, and that’s if you were watching constantly! My quickest binge watching experience would probably be Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I watched the whole series, along with Angel, in university when I had insomnia. I soared through it!
5. I Wish I Had Binge Watched
But sometimes binge watching isn’t possible. Sometimes you’re not late to the game at all and you catch every episode, from the very beginning, on tv. It’s fun to be current but being able to openly discuss it with friends & internet discussion boards is a hollow victory. You miss the connection that binge watching creates. Where you’re so attached to the story that it invades your real life. Where you know the characters better than you know yourself. Where your emotional stability is tied to who is alive & who is dead… and if your OTP is together or not. These are the shows we watched in real-time but wish we’d binge watched… or are considering going back & binge watching now, despite knowing what happens.
Justine: I think I’d choose Once Upon A Time. It’s such an awesome show and full of so much excitement. I’d love to watch it all in a row, where I can get overly attached to all of the characters. Alternatively I’d love to binge watch Pretty Little Liars all over again!
KG: I was literally thinking the other day how I hate watching Girl Meets World 20 minutes at a time. I just want to be able to binge watch all of the episodes at once (the ones that have aired and all of the ones that have yet to air).
Kris: Teen Wolf! I am obsessed with Teen Wolf but no one else watches it so I never get to talk about it! If I could sit down and watch it all at once for the first time… that would be a dream!
Did you do the math? If we finish watching all of the shows included in this post (and you know we will) we will have watched 1156 Hours of tv. That’s 48 Days. A Month & A Half of television viewing! … I’m not sure how to feel about that. Here’s where you get to play the binge watching game… what are you watching? What have you watched? We LOVE suggestions (obviously, because we love tv in general). Take a look back through what we are watching/have watched and let us know if you have any perfect shows we should move on to next!
Love & Luck,
Kris
