The world has been One Direction-less for a good chunk of time now, and I feel like I am starting to get used to it. In fact, it’s not heartbreaking to hear Niall’s new single on the radio; I’m actually pretty proud of him. And I hope to hear some new music from the other boys in the near future as well. But I also hope that the One Direction hiatus doesn’t last forever, because I think that those boys have the opportunity to build something amazing within the music industry.
The One Direction hiatus may have come to pass because the boys needed a break, both from work and from each other, and this makes total sense. As a group, they had been pushed too hard for too long, and I definitely can’t fault them wanting to have some time for themselves. But as the hiatus grows longer and more indefinite, it’s hard to be a One Direction fan.
But it might not be so bad…
I wish the boys all the best in their individual endeavours in the music industry, but I hope they don’t ever close the door on One Direction. They have the unique opportunity to explore themselves as solo artists and come back together to collaborate and share what they’ve learned. Niall, Harry, and Liam are all currently working on solo music, likely in very different styles. Louis has been flying under the radar, but we all know that he is a talented songwriter and I’m sure he won’t be away from the game for long. If the group comes back together to collaborate on an album, it could result in a really special sound.
I hope that the boys don’t close the door on working together again, but I also hope that when and if they do come together, it’s not as a permanent thing. I’m not sure that being a group forever and always would make them all happy, so I want them to keep the relationship open, work on individual music, and then collaborate on an album or tour every couple years. I believe this is how you create longevity for a boy band, a phenomenon which is basically meant to burn hot and bright with fame for a short period of time. I’ll be happy to see the boys grow, be themselves, and have some autonomy in their respective careers. But I’ll be the most excited for the moments of bromance, friendship, and nostalgia that I’m sure to experience when they work on projects together.
What do you think about the One Direction hiatus? How would you feel about the “open relationship” between the boys? Let me know in the comments!
