Since 2015 is drawing to a close, it’s time to come up with the My Fangirl Life team’s collective list of the best things that happened this year. We introduced this feature with The Best Things About 2014, posted almost a year ago. It’s a lot of fun to reflect in both a personal and pop culture capacity, so we decided to reprise this list, based on this action-packed year. So here it is… The Best Things About 2015.
This album was epic. So epic that t’s importance continued through the end of 2014 and straight into 2015. Taylor continued doing her thing through the 1989 World Tour, the release of videos for “Style“, “Bad Blood” and “Wildest Dreams“, and so much more. In case you somehow managed to miss this album, you can check out our 1989 Review Part 1, 2, 3, and 4 to catch you up. We were also lucky enough to see Tay-Tay live during her 1989 World Tour, which we attended in Edmonton. Basically, it was a Swift-filled year for the My Fangirl Life team (and, you know… the rest of the world). Check out some of our related content below!
Justine Jumped on the Pretty Little Liars Bandwagon
Kris and I discovered this magically addictive show in 2014, but Justine fell into it head first this year… and sunk. We are now all fairly obsessed with this Pretty Little show, no matter how stupid the main characters are being (why do they always go to investigate the abandoned and secluded location at night? And why do they always split up? Haven’t they heard that things are better together?), we love the suspense and intrigue of Rosewood. In fact, we love it so much that we will be hosting a joint Shadowhunters/Pretty Little Liars week around the premieres in January. Keep watch for that if you’re into either of these fandoms!
We Went to a One Direction Concert and it was Epic
Actually, we went to all the concerts (check out our Summer of Concerts for more details), which made for a great year for us. But the crowning moment of it all was being in the 8th row, right near the centre catwalk at One Direction. We were literally so close they could actually see us… or hit us with water from their water bottles (I’m looking at you, Harry). Check out some of our 1D-concert-related content below!
Kris, Justine, and I travelled to Florida this year to visit both Disney World and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Both of these parks cannot be described as anything else but “magical”. Though the rest of Universal Studios left something to be desired (at least in our books), they really did do an excellent job on the Harry Potter sections. It was hard work, living in a theme park, but we had an absolute blast. Though this probably doesn’t apply to most people, this trip was a very important part of the year for the fangirls in us.
1D Released Made in the AM
And it was the best One Direction album ever… though hopefully not the last. Our team absolutely adores this album and definitely wishes their was some more promo to go along with it. At least the album that will have to get us through some Directionless years is good (please don’t tell me it has to get us through forever… I refuse to be OK with that).

The Cutie Mark Crusaders got their Cutie Marks
This was a huge deal to a My Little Pony fan like me. I’ve been literally waiting for years, wondering if these cute little Crusaders would ever find their way in the world. I won’t spoil exactly what they are for you here, but this year, it finally happened! I definitely did not expect those fillies to actually grow up.
Harry Styles and Ellie Goulding Were All About Feud Songs
I love a good feud song. Taylor Swift was always the unapologetic queen of these, but other celebs have now started to write about their star studded romances. Who doesn’t want to hear the juicy details behind the relationships of their favourite celebrities? No one – that’s the answer! As I reported in last year’s Best Things list, Ed Sheeran released “Don’t” in 2014, which we soon found out was about Ellie Goulding. This was brought even further into the light this year when Ellie released “On My Mind“, which was clearly a direct response to Ed’s track. The even better (or more ridiculous) part was that she flat-out denied it was about him. Come on, Ellie… you have to own it.
Also this year, One Direction released “Perfect“, which was again an obvious response to another song – Taylor Swift’s “Style”. The world knew that Taylor’s track was totally written about Harry, for too many obvious reasons. One Direction hasn’t really commented on who their song is about, but they haven’t denied it either, and I love it.
The Force Awakens Was Amazing
The new Star Wars movie was obviously one of the hugest things to happen in pop culture this year. In order to prepare for this, we purchased Star Wars clothing (some of it from our friends over at Hot Dame), read the entire Star Wars wikipedia page, did multiple media interviews, became considered Star Wars “experts”, and went to an all-day marathon in theatres beginning at 4:45 AM to watch all the movies before the new one. Normal, right? You can check out each of our media appearances below.
Regardless of how strange all of this was, the movie was worth the preparation and was definitely one of the best things about 2015. The hysteria surrounding it was exciting and interesting, and it did not lead to disappointment. I really love some of the storylines that are now coming to light, and the new characters are epically cool. Can’t wait to see what is to come in Episode VIII! Shawn Mendez & Camila Capello Were the Cutest “Denying-They’re-A-Couple” Couple Ever
I seriously cannot get enough of these two together. They are literally the most adorable thing to ever happen? OTP anyone??? JUST BE IN LOVE! Not only are they one of the best things about 2015, but I hope their actual relationship will be one of the best things about 2016.
Seriously though, they are pretty much the cutest two individuals and putting them together would just be even more awesome. I hope that all the adorable photos/videos/interviews/performances/etc. of the two of them are accurate… because according to those, they are clearly in love.
What do you think were the best things about 2015? What did we miss? Share in the comments!
