Hello! Welcome back to another recap of Agents of SHIELD! Apologies for missing the last two weeks; exciting things have been happening and life got extremely busy, but now I’m back! This week I’ll be reviewing episode 3×15 ‘Spacetime’, which I thoroughly enjoyed! TONS of spoilers ahead, so be warned…
1) The story format
This week’s episode had a very different feel to it. It felt fresh and that’s precisely one of the reasons I liked it so much! We were given snippets of what was to come later in the episode and they all panned out completely opposite of how we’d expect. I also deeply felt for the main Inhuman in this week’s episode, Charles. Let’s face it, the guy had a super cool, but AWFUL power. And instead of going crazy and turning evil and wanting to destroy everyone, he hid himself from the world, in order to not hurt anyone else. R.I.P. Charles, you’ll be missed.
2) It had time wimey stuff.
I’m a sucker for anything that has to do with space/time ideas, like the Terminator. And the episode itself was appropriately named “Spacetime”. There was a high element of science in it, but at the same time, they made it feel sort of magical. Plus, it made me think of Doctor Who. I loved Fitz’s explanation of Spacetime to the rest of the team. Partially because everyone else looked utterly confused, and he was so adamant about not being able to change the future. Haven’t you seen Doctor Who Fitz?!?! You’re Scottish!!
3) The action.
Another part that especially stood out this episode was the action scene that the team practiced over and over again in order to get the timing right. Initially the fight was going to be done by May, but Daisy took over last moment. And MAN, WHAT A COOL SCENE. I’ve always been a fan of one-take action scenes. Partially because you just have to truly appreciate all the work that went into making that one scene absolutely perfect. One person slightly out of place? Start over. Jim accidentally is too far out of frame? DAMMIT JIM YOU HAD ONE JOB. But really, props to the team at SHIELD. They’ve done one-take action scenes a couple times now, but I especially loved this one. Makes me feel like I’m playing a video game.
Ok, I don’t actually “like” Gideon and Hive. They’re both psycho and I despise both of them beyond belief, but the show is doing a really good job going into uncharted waters with these two. Hive is NASTY. He makes the other villains from the past look like Dora the Explorer. He has no remorse whatsoever. I don’t even think he has emotion, which makes him DEADLY. Brett Dalton is so, so good at playing bad. I can’t believe we even had him as a good character for the first 2/3 of season 1! He’s unrecognizable! Also, Hive… The Matrix called. Neo wants his coat back. Apparently next week we get to see Hive’s true form. I’m slightly terrified.
Anyone who reads these recaps KNOWS I adore Fitzsimmons. This episode used Fitzsimmons in the most adorable way. They weren’t the really geeky/science duo, but were used more as props during the action test scene. Their humour always lifts an episode to new heights and this episode was no exception. Plus, THE HAND HOLDING AT THE END. I SCREAMED. I like that even though Fitz has taken a respectful step back in their relationship to give Simmons her space, Simmons is the one who is initiating now. They’re sooooo in LOOOOVVVEEE. Really, it’s gonna happen. It’s just a matter of when. Don’t mess with us writers.
Anyways, that’s all for now! What did you think of the episode! Excited for episode 16? Check back next week for another recap of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD!
Ciao for now,
