One Direction released their new, and possibly last ever, music video this week for their song “History”. Upon viewing it, fangirls everywhere were reduced to puddles of feelings on the floor (including yours truly). The person who came up with the concept for the “History” music video is an absolute evil genius, because it is perfectly adorable, awesomely heartbreaking, and incredibly emotional, all at the same time.
It feels like I am constantly having emotional reactions to stuff One Direction does. I didn’t think I could have had more feels than the first time I listened to “A.M.”, but it seems that these boys have proven me wrong, because the “History” music video had me bawling from the opening scenes.
Those beautiful boys appeared on my computer screen together for possibly the last time (I mean, definitely not the last time on my particular screen, because I will continue to watch every 1D video forever… but that’s beside the point). They all look fabulous as their current-day selves throughout the video…
But it’s the flashbacks that really get you, and the flashbacks start immediately. And then you realize that they’re going to keep flashing back, summing up everything that One Direction is in a span of 3 minutes, which is just not fair. 3 MINUTES IS NOT ENOUGH TO FIT IN ALL THE FEELS I HAVE FELT OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS, ONE DIRECTION!
From their origin on The X-Factor to now, all the very best and most adorable clips of One Direction – even Zayn! – have been compiled into this video, and though the experience of watching it as a 1D fangirl is intense, it does make for a magical 3 minutes.
And then at the end, when they all wave goodbye and go their separate ways and it is just the cherry on top of the overwhelmingly emotional bowl of ice cream… ?
I guess the moral of the story is that I’m just really not OK. This video was difficult to watch, but it is basically the perfect One Direction montage with their hiatus looming. The “History” music video is what One Direction fans will go back to often over the next few years, in order to relive that boy band feeling. And if 1D comes back someday, they can walk right back in front of this brick wall and pick up where they left off.
Side note: If anyone wants to make a video like this about my life, please feel free…
