We’ve been talking a lot about Hot Dame this week on My Fangirl Life. We can’t help it; we are just so excited about their products! You might want to write off what we have to say as paid advertising, but the truth is that we are featuring Hot Dame because we honestly love what they have to offer! Just how much do we love them? Each member of the My Fangirl Life team has done a product review to tell you… but first…
If you missed our post earlier this week, Hot Dame is an online shop owned & operated in our hometown. They sell leggings and various other way-cool clothing items, such as skirts & dresses. You can learn more about them here: Geek Shopping: Hot Dame. In that post you’ll also find a gallery full of photos of the My Fangirl Life team trying out the products (there’s also a “behind the scenes” gallery).
All it took was a few short hours sporting Hot Dame products during that photo shoot for us to be hooked. We needed to own these leggings! Our wardrobes would no longer seem complete without the skirts! Luckily we can now ALL own Hot Dame merchandise, thanks to the coupon code “FANGIRL”. Just enter “FANGIRL” in the discount code field during checkout on the Hot Dame site for 15% off (valid until December 18, 2015). Need more convincing… or perhaps some advice on which products to buy? The MFL Team each provides insight into what their favorite piece is and why below!

Justine: Middle Earth Pencil Skirt
At every Comic Expo I’ve attended in the past 2 years I’ve pointed out each pair of map leggings I see, whether it be Middle Earth, the Marauders Map or Westeros. The Middle Earth leggings have always been my favourite – I was just always too cheap or had some other excuse that prevented me from buying a pair. And then I saw this skirt. I loved it for a few reasons. First, out of all the potential maps, I was so glad it was Middle Earth. Second, I don’t wear leggings that often… instead I wear a skirt or dress almost every day. This was perfect. Plus the style of the skirt was everything I wanted – I love a good pencil skirt. Nothing like a fandom piece that shows off my curves!
The Middle Earth Pencil Skirt fits perfectly into my style. I love tucking and I love a good pair of nylons. The colour of the skirt goes really well with all the black I own, as well as my burgundy hat. With the neutral tones in the skirt it’s fun to add a bit of colour. The skirt is very high-waisted (which I love and find quite flattering on me!) but what I love the most is when you fold the waist band down it says Middle Earth. So fun!
I also loved the material of this piece. It was super comfy to wear, unlike some fitted skirts can be. There’s something special about the material. It can feel like work out wear but also be something I’d wear on a night out. In this instance, I chose to tuck a black tank top in, but I could easily wear this with a big oversized sweater and only have a bit of the map peeking out. Or for something fancier, I could wear it with a nice top and some heels to be ready for a night out. So many different styles to experiment with!
KG: T-Rex Flirt Skirt
I absolutely loved sporting this T-Rex Flirt Skirt at our shoot. I really wasn’t sure about it to start out with. I mean, I thought it was cool, but how could I possibly work something so intense and threatening into my Hipster Folk Princess wardrobe? Dinosaurs are a bit too scary for me (my head was under my blanket the time we saw Jurassic World). But who can resist a T-Rex on a skirt? It’s so incredibly unexpected that it makes this piece all the more interesting.
I think the moment I fell in love with the skirt was the moment I matched the pink of the T-Rex’s tongue with my highlighter-pink cardigan. That is something that I really enjoy doing in my wardrobe in general: putting extremely pretty things together with edgier pieces and accessories to make a unique and eclectic look. This skirt was the perfect thing to mix in with my wardrobe.
As far as quality, the skirt is excellent. The fabric is heavy enough that it hangs nicely, and the design is long enough that you can wear the skirt up a bit higher, which is a style I love. The waistband is comfortable and the colours of the printing are very vibrant (like on all of Hot Dame’s products). This would be such a great gift for someone sciency, or who just loves dinosaurs! Wait… who doesn’t love dinosaurs?
Kris: Star Wars Leggings
Ugh. I am so obsessed with these Star Wars Leggings. SO OBSESSED. To start, they feature graphics by Canadian artist Kaytlyne. She is the premiere designer in Hot Dame’s Artist Series. Hot Dame’s willingness to showcase unique & creative patterns is part of what makes their shop so special. Plus it’s amazing to see a business that supports “local” talent (no, everyone in Canada does not know each other… it’s a big country). Kaytlyne’s art revolves around pop culture & nerdom, which is evident in these leggings. Plastered across your legs are your favorite Star Wars characters (you know the ones from the original trilogy), overlaid on old-school Star Wars comics. So cool, and perfect for my upcoming 17 hour Star Wars marathon!
But it wasn’t just the pattern that made me fall in love; I cannot express how comfortable these leggings are! From fit to fabric they are right on point. The material is a perfect mix of “comfy weekend #ootd” and “yoga master”. I find that sometimes leggings stray too far to one side, to the point that you can only wear them for either working out or going out. I trust that this pair will hold up to whatever I throw at it: shopping, lounging, or running. And the design was made to be versatile as well. They’re long enough to fit my lengthier legs (a problem area for me & pants) and have a genius waist line. Hot Dame brags on their site about their “signature convertible waist band,” and brag they should. It can be worn up to create a smoother, highwaisted look (hiding my belly) or folded over if you feel restricted or want to sport a crop top & show a little skin. Basically they were designed with real women in mind, creating a flattering silhouette no matter your figure. In conclusion, I am going to wrap this post up so I can dedicate the rest of my day to figuring out how to get away with never taking these babies off.
