Our friend Kristy is a big fan of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, and she’s going to be writing episode recaps for your enjoyment all season long. Today she’s here to share her thoughts on Season 3 Episode 7! In case you want to catch up on any of her previous fangirl recaps, you can check them all out here.
Summary: Dear Agents of SHIELD, how do you continually do this to us? May and Andrew make us all cry, once again I’m confused about Rosalind, FitzSimmons have a talk, and of course, like usual, we get a crazy twist.
So apparently I don’t own a calendar. In last week’s review, I mentioned that I’d be missing this review. I lied. It’s next week I’ll be missing, as I’ll be on vacation! *whoot whoot*
SPOILERS, SO BE WARNED!
This episode was not lacking in the feels department.
It was especially sad for May and Andrew, who (from what we can see) were in Hawaii and taking a much needed break. They were giving their marriage another shot and they truly looked happy together. Knowing now that Andrew is indeed Lash, it is absolutely heartbreaking and that image of happiness and serenity they had in Hawaii is gone and will most likely be gone forever.
I’ve been a big May/Andrew fan for a while, because it seems like they balance each other out. Not only was Andrew a great character and the voice of reason for so many other personalities, but he was a genuinely nice guy. And seeing how Jiaying (Daisy’s mom and also a psycho) boobytrapped terrigen crystals in her book and changed him without his consent is truly tragic. I found this episode to be very upsetting, especially after realizing that Andrew doesn’t have much control over Lash. He’s being terrorized by his alter ego, and I’m afraid he won’t be able to continue that way for much longer.
Daisy and Rosalind have a problem with each other, and each for a good reason. Rosalind is terrified of powered individuals and she expresses this in a truthful, understanding way. Quoting her, “For every Daisy Johnson, there is a Lash.” And she is absolutely right. So far, we’ve been lucky enough to see a handful of nice powered individuals this season. Last season, we got a glimpse of Jiaying’s Inhuman army that lived in Afterlife. They created a bit of a mess in the Season 2 Finale. If a team of violent Inhumans banded together, they would be an unstoppable force. I don’t agree with Rosalind’s tactics but I do believe she has a point, and I feel that Daisy started to understand this during the episode. Lash alone is an incredibly powerful enemy that took the entire team to capture. If there turns out to be another powerful individual like him, who knows what will happen.
BUT, even though Rosalind is ultimately terrified of these people, she has softened to the idea of them, THANKS TO DAISY for saving her life. If Daisy hadn’t been there, she’d be dead, and Rosalind now knows that. She’s not any less terrified of Inhumans but now understands that people like Daisy are necessary, and having Daisy around makes her feel a bit more safe.
I’ve said this about Lincoln before, and I’ll say it again. Lincoln has a dark past. Lash even mentioned that he “has a darkness in him,” and it’s clear to see. Obviously Lincoln is furious with Lash and has every reason to be – Lash killed his friends – but I’m concerned that he may not be suited to work on the team. He’s a loose cannon, much in the same way that Ward is. Now, Ward is crazy… actually terrifyingly, I-will-kill-everyone-that-wronged-me, crazy. Lincoln is not there yet… but he could be on his way. The problem is, Ward is unpredictable, and so is Lincoln. To work with SHIELD you need to be a team player, and Lincoln has continually been a solo guy. I’m pretty sure he has a good heart, but he needs to learn how to work in a unit. His actions alone this episode almost got everyone killed and if he hadn’t meddled I’m pretty sure Andrew would have gone willingly without turning into his alter-ago. Basically, Lincoln is powerful and dangerous, but I don’t believe him to be nefarious. I’m just hoping his actions won’t get someone killed.
Andrew transforming in front of May was difficult to watch. We can clearly see the pain in her eyes, watching the man she loves turn back into a monster. In contrast to this, it was momentarily beautiful to watch Lash transform back into Andrew because May was there to calm him down. It was reminiscent of the Hulk/Black Widow lullaby in Age of Ultron, although this was far more tragic. She shot him and forced him in the containment pod, not knowing if it would kill him or not. Once again, May had to make an impossible decision for the good of the situation. SOMEONE GIVE THAT WOMAN A HUG. Or a medal. Or something! That poor woman deserves happiness and SO DOES ANDREW. But May has had more tragedy than most people can bear, just LET HER BE HAPPY.
Now onto the FitzSimmons bit of the episode. They didn’t have much screen time, but what they did have was INCREDIBLY important. Fitz heard all of Simmons’ recordings and saw all her videos. He KNOWS how she feels. Throughout her time being back from that ridiculous planet Fitz never really understood how she felt, but now he has concrete evidence that she does in fact have feelings for him. Yeah, the situation with Will sorta gets in the way, and I’m pretty much convinced that if they hadn’t done that, FS would be together already (but it makes for bad TV apparently, and they want to hurt us some more). But what I’m trying to say is, now they BOTH know that they have feelings for one another. This is the most truthful conversation FS have had on the show thus far and an incredibly positive one. This just confirms my belief that FitzSimmons are endgame. Yes, we’ll be put through more pain before they’re together, but I do TRULY believe that they will be together. I’ve obviously had many worries that something tragic will happen to one of them, but we have one important fact to consider: FS are highly regarded as fan favourites. The writers have to know that if they kill one of them off, that there will be a tremendous amount of backlash. I’m hoping that this fact keeps them safe, as I’ve shipped FitzSimmons from the very first episode when they were tiny, adorable, bickering science babies. Look how much they’ve grown!
Also, HAVE YOU SEEN THE PROMO PIC FOR NEXT WEEK?!?!? THEY MIGHT KISS. BUT THEY’RE HAVING A MOMENT AND I WILL MOST LIKELY PASS OUT. Why must I be on vacation during this time?! I gotta find WiFi somewhere and watch it, or I will definitely cry.
Now to the latest on Ward and Gideon. I honestly don’t know anything about this guy, and I really don’t want to know what Ward’s planning. All we know is that he wants to take down SHIELD for good, namely go after Coulson. This is very bad. Ward will stop at nothing to kill every single person in SHIELD, and I’m not gonna lie, I think he might end up taking a few people out. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had a few familiar faces die on us. Ward likes to cause pain, and he will. As for that Gideon dude knowing Rosalind? I called it as soon as his phone rang. I wish I hadn’t been right, but unfortunately I was.
IS ROSALIND HYDRA?
IS SHE EVIL?
I honestly don’t know.
I really hope that she isn’t evil. She could be another pawn for all we know. BUT the fact that she and Coulson did the deed doesn’t make anything better. It just complicates the situation even more. Only time will tell.
That’s all for now! Check back next week for another review! And if you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to sound off below! 🙂
Ciao for now,
