Welcome to my weekly blog series: Tuesday Walk of Shame. Here I hang my head low as I admit to having watched the previous night’s episode of The Bachelor / Bachelorette / Bachelor In Paradise (or whatever the newest spin-off happens to be) and provide my own personal commentary. I’ll tell you what I loved. I’ll tell you what I hated. And most importantly, I’ll tell you what I would have done differently.
Vote Kris for The Bachelorette… because socially anxious, kinda bitchy, hopelessly unromantic nerds deserve love too.
Hi loyal readers! It’s me Justine here – I’ve taken over Kris’s series this week to share some thoughts on my new favourite Bachelor-related topic: How much I love Ashley I.
Like the rest of the world, I couldn’t stand Ashley during her stint on The Bachelor. She was needy and obsessive and couldn’t stop crying… Ugh! But then the magical show that is Bachelor in Paradise happened and I found myself relating to KardAshley more than I’ve related to any member of the Bachelor family. Through all this I’ve realized that Ashley I and I would be BFFs ?. Here’s a snapshot of my qualifications for this likely-to-be highly-sought-after position:
I Love Boy Bands and Taylor Swift
If you’ve been to My Fangirl Life before you’ll know we’re big fans of all things boy band and TSwift. We even had the extreme pleasure of featuring them on our Summer Concert series… check out our reviews of One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer & Taylor Swift.
Surprise! Ashley I is also a big fan of 1D & Tay-Tay! I love her Taylor Swift tweets and that she isn’t afraid to voice her thoughts on current boy band issues. If the two of us were friends, we’d sing along to 1989 for hours and fangirl over Harry Styles for even longer. Of course, this one is something Kris and KG would need to join in on!
I Love the Titanic
I know I wasn’t the only one who noticed Ashley sporting the Heart of the Ocean during a rose ceremony on Bachelor in Paradise. I can spot that necklace anywhere, mainly because I have my own! In response to a tweet, Ashley mentioned that she bought hers off ebay. Mine on the other hand is an antique… I bought it back in 1998 when I was 10! I sometimes even still wear it.
But beyond that, Ashley has posted a number of Titanic-themed photos on Instagram. She loves the movie. She also loves Leo. *sigh* ❤️ Leo ?I once wrote a rather lengthy post on Why We Still Care About the Titanic. I also have a couple Titanic-themed photos… Though I am a little jealous of Ashley’s Team DiCaprio shirt.
I have an entire Titanic shelf in my apartment, as you can see below. The framed photo of my sister and I ‘flying’ when were were younger remains one of my faves. I can just imagine Ashley and I watching Titanic together and crying. It would be a fun time. Which brings me to my next point…
I Cry An Above-Average Amount
I am a rather emotional person. I cry in movies and TV shows all the time. If a sad song comes on or I hear an emotional story, I start to weep. If I get too worked up I’ll shed a couple tears. I definitely not as quick with the water-works as Ashley, but then if I was in her situation on one of these shows I’d probably spend the majority of my time crying too. It’s just something you have to deal with when you’re an emotional person!
I’m a Disney-aholic
It’s no secret that Ashley is a Disney fan. She’s made numerous comparisons between herself & Jasmine and threw a rather large fit when she didn’t get the princess date on her season of The Bachelor. She was just waiting for her Prince Charming… her Aladdin. Unfortunately Jared wasn’t the one for her (though perhaps he could be mine, or perhaps someone can help me find my Prince Charming???).
I can most definitely relate. I am obsessed with Disney and have been for basically my whole life. I own all of the movies (literally) and have been to Disney theme parks 6 times in the past 15 years. Recently I’ve learned that I can become a Disney Princess and things got even better. Our trip to Disney World was filled with Disneybounding and Snow White encounters. And I got to be Belle when cosplay became about being Disney Princesses.
Ashley could be the Jasmine in our Princess cosplay group. We’d welcome her with open arms. Plus, I think we’d have such an excellent time at Disneyland together or watching the same Disney movies for the millionth time.
I’m a Slightly Obsessive Hopeless Romantic
My favourite thing about Ashley is how she is 100% herself all the time, which makes her totally relatable. She is highly educated but also silly and obsessive. I get this because I’m also a little obsessive. This can be good thing, but also not so good. If I were in Ashley’s shoes, I also probably would have written a 7-page letter to Jared explaining things because I also think I’m better at writing my feelings than saying them. If someone I have a connection with tells me they are no longer interested, I will keep trying for awhile… just like Ashley did.
But everything she did was because she’s looking for her Prince Charming. Even after being on these manufactured shows, Ashley still has hope that she’ll find the person who is perfect for her. She’s not giving up and I like to think I’m the same way. Things haven’t worked out for me so far, but that doesn’t mean my Prince Charming isn’t still out there.
Ashley and I are very similar. She’s a little more outgoing than myself but I think we could be excellent friends. I don’t quite understand her Kardashian obsession but then I don’t fully understand KG’s My Little Pony obsession and we’re still friends. So basically, if you’re reading this Ashley, drop me a line sometime because I think we would have a blast.
Thanks for reading! Don’t worry that The Bachelor won’t return till January – there are still lots of Bachelor-related posts to come on My Fangirl Life in the upcoming months. Tuesday Walk of Shame isn’t going anywhere Bachelor Nation!
Thanks for letting me share my thoughts
