My Fangirl Life is a geek lifestyle blog, or that’s how we describe ourselves. This means that we love to talk about every aspect of life as a nerd, from cosplay, Cons, and entertainment to cooking, fashion, and DIY. Today’s topic, Geek Decorating, falls squarely into the middle of all of that.
I love having small, subtle (or, you know, sometimes obvious) touches of my dearest fandoms in my home decor. In today’s post I’m going to take you on a tour of my bedroom and my favourite geek things that I keep there! I hope this can inspire you to add your own personal nerd touches to your bedroom decor.
Here’s an overview of my room – don’t worry, we’ll be digging a bit deeper shortly here:You may have noticed some of the more obvious nerdy pieces in the above photo collage, but now I’m going to go through and outline my favourites. Here we go!
My Frozen-Themed Bed
You may have noticed that my bed is sneakily Frozen-themed. Between the colours, touches of white faux-fur, and the delicate snowflake lights hanging on the window, I tried to add some small Frozen glimpses to this bed last year. I didn’t want to re-do my entire room, but this was a fun little affordable project.
My Pet “Drogon”
Those of you who follow this blog regularly may know that I like to cosplay as Daenerys Targaryen. When I’m dressed as Dany, this little dragon comes everywhere with me (truly, I once brought him to the club with me after a day of cosplay). When I’m going about my everyday life, Drogon sits on his perch atop this shelf, keeping watch over my bedroom.
My Taylor Swift Lyric Photos
You may recognize the lyric photos in these frames as the ones we shared on My Fangirl Life in our 1989 Reviews (check out Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4). Kris made all of these, and she gifted me a printed set for Christmas. Such fun and unique artwork! I’m looking forward to framing the set of 1989 Tour Lithographs I received with my Taylor Swift concert tickets and rearranging this wall to include those. My Pinkie Pie Artwork
I bought this Pinkie Pie picture at my very first Con – Edmonton Expo last year. It serves as both a memento of that weekend and as inspiration in my everyday life. As an event planner, I’ve often said that I identify with Pinkie Pie greatly… in fact, I wrote a post the other week outlining 5 reasons Pinkie Pie is my spirit animal.
My Magic Wand
I feel as though every self-respecting nerd should probably own a magic wand. Mine is even more special because I purchased it at Ollivander’s when visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Orlando earlier this year. You can check out some photos from our visit here – we had such a blast doing photo shoots with our wands! My wand is Fleur’s, if you are curious. Kris picked up Krum’s and Justine bought Cedric’s. Apparently we are fans of Triwizard champions that aren’t Harry.
My Poster of Rapunzel’s Tower
This is another memento from our Florida trip earlier this year. We (but mostly Kris) took so many photos, both of ourselves and of the amazing scenery in each of the Parks we visited. I just love this shot of Rapunzel’s tower and it worked perfectly when blown up to poster-size.
Other Geek Decorations
Below I’ve put together a bonus collage of a few of my other favourite nerd things in my room. I love the framed photo collage above my bed, and the Little Mermaid drawing just gives it that fun touch I need in all of my decor. On my nightstand I keep a clock that I purchased because it made me think of the White Rabbit’s watch in Alice in Wonderland – I love the whimsical feel this item brings. Lastly, Kris gave me these awesome candles last Christmas. They’re in such amazing scents including “221B Baker Street”, “Hobbiton”, “Butterbeer”, and “Peeta’s Cakes”.
There you have it – my geeky room in a nutshell! What do you think? What kind of nerd decor do you have going on in your bedroom? Let me know in the comments!
Keep watch in the future for tours of Kris and Justine’s respective rooms, and for more geek decorating highlights from the rest of our houses.
