I’m sure that all you Directioners out there have already watched 1D’s new music video for “Drag Me Down”. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend you check it out, One Direction fan or not. The video is cool, and One Direction as a whole looks as hot as ever. Woo!
But that’s not what I am here to discuss today. I am here to discuss the fact that in this video, the boys from 1D are heading into space. In fact, I heard that the video was actually filmed at NASA and that it was the first time they had allowed people on-site to film something like a music video. Of course NASA went all lax on security when confronted with the angelic faces of One Direction! Anyhow, what isn’t explained in the video is why, exactly, a boy band is being sent out into the cosmos. Today I am going to share with you several probable backstories for this scenario.
Probable “Drag Me Down” Video Backstory #1:
Perhaps there was an asteroid hurtling towards Earth. NASA tried everything they could to stop or redirect the rock, but nothing worked. When they had exhausted all options, one of the scientists discovered that the only way to break the asteroid apart was to vibrate sound waves of the exact frequency and pitch of One Direction’s voices though it. The new (improved) One Direction, that is. This is the real reason that Zayn left the group – because humanity depended on it. The boys were quickly rounded up and trained to head into space to save the planet and return as heroes.
Probable “Drag Me Down” Video Backstory #2:
Maybe this video takes place during the inaugural season of The X-Factor… on Mars! You can’t tell me that Syco wouldn’t send golden boys One Direction to do a guest appearance on this revolutionary season of the TV show they were formed on. And of course, 1D would be up for the challenge! What better way to inspire all those music hopefuls from Mars?
Probable “Drag Me Down” Video Backstory #3:
Perhaps One Direction has let their tour dates pile up way too high. There is no way for them to physically get to everywhere they need to be, so the only rational solution is to take a rocketship to all of their shows. And if you’re going to ride on a rocket, you may as well go through astronaut training!
Probable “Drag Me Down” Video Backstory #4:
In the year 2020, the Cold War has flared up again with international tensions reaching an all-time high. In order to earn prestige on the world stage and maintain the support of their own citizens, leading nations of the world have engaged in a game of publicity stunt brinkmanship. A visionary saw the solution to winning this game and reformed the Allied Powers to use America’s technology prowess and Britain’s cultural superiority to do the ultimate: be the first to send a boy band to the moon. Your move, China.
Probable “Drag Me Down” Video Backstory #5:
In the aftermath of Zayn’s departure from the band, the members of One Direction decide they need to push their sound further than ever before. With this comes the realization that there are some sounds that just cannot be made on Earth. So they head into space and put their very existence on the line to create The Greatest Album Ever Made.
