This Friday Kris and I are hosting our 3rd ever Murder Mystery Party. These are ALWAYS a lot of fun, but I think this time is going to be one of the very best. In the past, we’ve purchased our mysteries from Night of Mystery, which I highly recommend to get started. This time, however, Kris is writing our entire mystery, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.
My assigned character for this Friday night is Nancy Drew. I’ve always loved this smart girl detective, so I am very excited about the chance to channel her style into my outfit for the evening. As a result, I thought I would share with you some tips on how to closet cosplay Nancy Drew.
What is closet cosplay, you ask? Well, Kris has defined it in an earlier post:
Closet cosplay is the act of dressing like your favorite fandom character in your everyday life. […] The key to Closet Cosplay is that you use your bountiful creativity & fashion skills to take a costume & turn it into a date night or work or casual outfit.
Now, let’s take a look at Nancy Drew’s style! Here are some examples in the old books:
She definitely likes blue. Classic shapes, cute feminine dresses, and always very buttoned up. More recently, she has been interpreted much the same, but maybe with a little more colour.
So, how can you take a page out of Nancy’s book and channel her style? I’ve got some tips for you here.
1) Get a pretty vintage dress or skirt
2) Add a blazer or preppy cardigan.
Bonus points for a cardigan worn tied around the shoulders.
3) Put on a headband.
4) Wear some sensible footwear (for all that mystery solving you’ll be doing!)
And there you have it, Nancy Drew! Here are some examples I found online:
Bonus points for carrying around a purse like this one, found on Etsy:
I have one of these, but I’m not sure where it was purchased. I’ll definitely be carrying mine around on Friday night though! I can’t wait to let out my inner girl detective.
Are you a fan of Nancy Drew? What’s your favourite of her looks? Share in the comments!
Cheers,
